An expansion of a port can certainly bolster the industry and the economy of its host city. This expansion can drive more jobs in the community, bringing in further assistance to its localities.
In November 2015, the spokesperson of the Port of Oakland stated its exclusive negotiations with CenterPoint Properties, an industrial leader in the development, redevelopment, acquisition and management of real estate and transportation infrastructure, which supports efficiency in business and government supply chain operations.
If both organizations agree to strike a deal, the development of a 170- acre Seaport Logistics Complex will soon be proceeding.
The Port of Oakland is eying to be a logistics hub. The port’s lead negotiator and Maritime Director, John Driscoll stressed that the negotiation is intended to make the port a magnet to draw additional containerized cargo volume.
The port also devices to build a regional distribution center and warehouses at the complex thru the succeeding stages of expansion.
Supporting more than 73,000 jobs in the region and nearly 827,000 jobs across the United States, the Port of Oakland continues to sustain a rapid pace in positioning the port as a hub of cargo distribution. Just recently, the port announced a new toll-free telephone hotline, Web site live chat, and office hours in East and West Oakland during a community breakfast last weekend. The programs will go live on Dec. 15.
